TOTAL HEALTH – OUR UNIQUE FOCUS
At the Van Hala Dental Group, we care for more than just your teeth! Recent evidence has established an indisputable connection between our oral health and our bodies’ well being. The Van Hala Dental Group cares not just for your mouth, but for the rest of your body as well.
Gum Disease and Systemic Health
Gum disease is widespread and it is serious. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that almost 50% of adults over 30 and 70% of adults over 65 have gum disease. These statistics only scratch the surface of how serious this issue is; because gum disease is not just a “tooth-disease” it is a chronic inflammatory disease. While inflammation is a process designed to heal, it becomes a danger when it is constant and it leads to diseases such as Alzheimer’s, CVD (cardio vascular disease), diabetes, stroke and cancer.
“Safe” Silver-Mercury Removal
Dental fillings (amalgams) are composed primarily of the metals silver and mercury. Because mercury is both a known neurotoxin and environmental contaminant, many of our patients are concerned with mercury “poisoning”. Due to these concerns, we utilize a “safe” removal protocol based on IAOMT guidelines for removing mercury fillings and minimizing its exposure.
Almost 50-70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders, including Insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Experts suggest that 10% of the adult population suffers from OSA and that 80-90% of sufferers are undiagnosed. OSA causes people to stop breathing or breathe shallow breaths during sleep. Due to narrowing of the airway, snoring can be common. People with sleep apnea experience excessive daytime sleepiness and more importantly it is a life-threatening condition associated with increased risk for accidents, stroke, high blood pressure, heart attack, depression and sexual impotence.
Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (“TMJ” or TMD)
People suffering from “TMJ” can be miserable. But what is “TMJ”? TMJ or more accurately, TMD is a general term describing a variety of conditions resulting from dysfunction of the jaw joint. It can result from muscle hypersensitivity or damage to the TM joint caused by stress, trauma or an injury. Depending on the damage to the joint, there are various treatment options that can bring relief to sufferers of “TMJ”.
The American healthcare system is in crisis. Today, four factors cause 75% of diseases in America. These same four factors account for 81% of hospital visits, 91% of prescriptions, 76% of physician visits and cost the average person $6032 per year. These four factors are tobacco use, diet, lack of physical activity and stress. By addressing these four areas of your life, you will greatly improve your quality of life. Accordingly, the Van Hala Dental Group is offering, along with the Cleveland Clinic, three wellness programs to address these areas.
